The Green Man Restaurant & Pub originally dates back to 1730, making it a Grade II listed building. It used to be called Long's back in 1730 when it was mentioned in the will of Augustine Finch who was a Margaretting Butcher.
The Green Man is now run by two experienced and dynamic chefs bringing a breath of fresh air and ideas to this part of the Essex countryside. Mark Clemmey & Adam Walker have set up in buisiness because they are both passionate about the food they produce and their belief that they can provide something that is quite different from normal country pub fayre.
Mark & Adam have over 30 years' experience between them and are confident they can demonstrate to all their customers what it takes to make a meal just that bit more enjoyable.
There is definitely a big difference at the Green Man and on this all our diners are in agreement - without exception. Why not join them and experience something special!
In 1758 John Willment bought Long's, then known by the sign of the "Green Man" with barns, stables, yards, orchards, gardens and lots of land, from Henry Finch, the son of Augustine Finch the Butcher for the sum of £500.
Somewhere around 1812 George Williams pulled down parts of the original structure and erected a new building.
The Green Man, under new ownership since November 2010, is definitely more than just a country pub! This Restaurant & Pub offers an extensive range of excellent wines, beers and spirits which are now complemented by food which genuinely offers a fine dining experience. The venue is ideal for everyone, whether it's just for lunch, a meal in the evening or a special occasion, the Green Man offers an ambience that matches the fine dishes available from a varied and interesting menu.
